Default How deep do winter Largemouth Bass go.

I was out yesterday trying to graph some fish. Could not find anything 10 to 40ft. I did graph some fish in the 80 to 100 ft range. Just how deep do the bass go in the winter ? The water is only down to 53/54 degrees. Hard to figure them out ?

I have cought bass in 80' - I have marked fish deeper like 120' that I thought were bass. Other then that I have only heard stories about guys getting em pass one hundred feet. But then it becomes more like rock fishing

Bass are going to follow the forage. Since every lake is a different it will depend on the pattern for that lake. I don't know much about Shasta/Oroville, Berryessa (our deeper impoundments) but my guess is that when there is a lack of cover the forage will go deeper in search of water temperature stability. Stability is the key for forage and bass will follow as necessary.

I have caught bass as deep as 75' in the winter months. Brass and glass or a 1 1/2oz Mr B jig has worked well for me but the dropshot and spoon's also catch their share. Graph the fish and drop straight down on them. I also have heard stories of 100' fish that were caught.

I have spooned spotted bass as deep as 120 ft. They looked like nice fat fish but really just full of air. I once snagged one in the belly spooning over a 100 feet deep and the stomach blew out the hook hole. It died needless to say.

this winter I've been getting fish between 80-100ft...not too much fun when they come up from that depth! they look like salmon grouper! I have gotten a few largemouth out off 100 plus but they didn't make it.
