Default Is this guy an idiot or what!

Tom originally posted this link but unfortunatly the thread was hijacked and a good message was lost.
This is the perfect example of why some anglers should use Ugly Sticks and stay away from high-end rods.

I can't believe you posted this, AGAIN .

He seems to be having a good time whether or not he knows how to properly handle that rod or anything else in the boat. He's just helping the tackle shops stay in business! As long as you've got a license, keep a legal limit and are courteous to the other people on the water I'm OK.

Except for the fact that that rod is going back to G Loomis and we all pay for stupid rod replacements like this one. If all the rod companies could do it I think the all risks warranty should go away. Maybe they could drop the price of these rods considerably without people like this getting replacements.

The "warranty" thing is a non-issue. Most people know that for $50 they will send you a brand new rod regardless of how it was damaged, the $50 even includes prepaid return shipping. This is one of the best reasons to buy Loomis in the first place, ezpecially if you like to high-stick or jack-pole your fish into the boat.

Except that us that don't "jack-pole" our fish end up paying for the remamining portion of this guy's rod replacement. Do you think there is a GLoomis fairy that makes up the difference between the 50 buck replacement fee and the 350 dollar purchase price? I would rather pay less for the rod and have no "Idiot" warranty. Unfortunately the rod companies have dug a hole. It has become the accepted policy to have a no fault warranty and customers expect it.

Hope you never accidently break a rod. It doesn't always take an idiot to break a rod. I had one stepped on by someone else and got it replaced. It was a brand new rod. I wouldn't even have another one if I had to go buy one at full retail. It wasn't a Loomis though, it was a Shimano.

**** happens.

I don't think you get it. Why is it the rod company's fault that your buddy stepped on your rod? If your buddy is driving your boat and smashes it up does Ranger give you a new one? Nope. You have insurance or your buddy pays to have the damage fixed if you don't want to make a claim. Why do rod companys owe you a new rod because your buddy stepped on it? Maybe people would be a little more careful if they knew they would have to buy a new rod when it broke.......and maybe rods would cost less for the rest of us.
