Default snell knot question

im a firm believer in flipping with the snell knot, but have only ever done it with braid. anyone out there try it with 17-20 lb floro?

I don't really use braid, but I would use a double SanDiego Jam.

For heavy fluoro, the snell is great. I routinely use snells on 20 lb Fluoro; works like a charm!

An old past friend of mine taught me how to snell a hook back in the early 70's fishing for Steelhead. I have snelled all my hooks every since, even straight eye hooks, Monoand Floro. For all other baits I still use the improved clinch knot. Just works for me.

There are snell knots and there are snell knots. I as Jigs learned how to tie a snell knot many years ago from friends that I fished Steelhead with. The snell knot I prefer is one I call a CLEAN snell knot. The line enters the eye and imediately goes under the wraps as opposed to traveling above over three or four wraps prior to disappearing under the wraps. This prevents any chance of fish teeth cutting the exposed portion of the line just behind the eye of the hook.
This knot works great with Flouro for tying on hooks for wacky style fishing.
