My minnkota has been fixed 3 times and is still a POS. I called them on it. They don't want to help... so I am getting a motorguide and won't ever promote MK again! Support sucks - motor sucks!

Wanna make some $$$$$ Start a GOOD trolling motor company!

had both: had issues with both, but like the mk the best.
flaws: mk the plastic head unit. mg: heavy, noisey
reliability: both been been pretty reliable (mostly battery issues) but have replaced 2 mg motors and had to get motor magnets reglued
c/s: go to jay lui's
operation: mk: quiet like the slow start feature
lift assist: nice option next motor will have it
sonar: no on the universal (interference issues)
battery life: toss up battereis have lot to do with it and if 24v or 36 v
pedal: both are ok
like the mk 360: self resets
mg: sometime doesnt reset so u have to put on full and stab pedddle ( older it gets more u have to do it)

My 520 came with a MG 109. It was incredibly noisy which surprised me. I got a MK 101 with Lift Assist and it's the shiznit. Quiet no problems whatsoever. There will be bad luck with both brands. It's a #'s thing I guess, some of either brand are just going to have problems. Sorry to hear MK wouldn't help you out Tom that sucks. Good fishing.

Haven't owned a MG, but I like the rheostat speed control on the MK (gives infinite speed adjustment). I believe the MG has a 3 or 5 position switch for speeed control, someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

Stop crying Tom
Trolling motors are not made as direct boat to trailer stops
Mg's are floppy and have a mind of their own MK all the way.

I have owned both and I will never own another Motor Guide. To be fair I have not tried one of their newer units but the two MGs I had were had switch problems and within the year. The MK I currently own I bought used and hav had for 4 years and it has never had any issues. The first MK I owned was a used motor that was close to 20 years old when I got rid of it and it still ran fine. I agree there will be problems with both brands but I am sticking with MK, its the stronger, QUIETER, more reliable motor IMO.
