Default SI

Ok, as someone who has never checked out a SI unit on the water, is it really as good as some make it seem? How is the depth sounding, graph detail, map packages, and is it easy to decipher structure details on SI? It has to be really easy to spend too much time starring at the SI and not fishing right? Anyways, it will be interesting to hear from the you guys who have dabbled with both!

I have had a 997si for about 9 months and really like it. The details are just what you excpect. You can even see a car tire laying on the floor. Rock piles are totally visible and pilings and tules also. It is not as black and white to find fish. Especially Bass. Sometimes you have to open your mind and use deductive reasoning to determine fish or bait but with the comonation with GPS and Sonar you are ahead of the game. Especially at a body of water you dont fish everyday. I am defiantely going to spend more time on the SI for prefishing than actually prefishing this year.

BMX, did you previously own a Lowrance unit, LCX, HD? And how did they compare, setting aside the SI feature. Anybody else wanna weigh in?

I have a LCX-18 on my bow right now. The GPS is not set up but the sonar seems similar in quality to the Humminbirds. I think adding SI makes it a better unit straight up. sonar to sonar maybe lowrance has an edge and GPS is equal.

Side by side, Lowrance has a better GPS. The bird you cad mark a way point way over there(don't need to be right on top of it). Just let my bird go (the one on front). Will never get rid of the one in the back(997). I have been looking at a lowrance screan to long to change now. The 997 is turned on to the SI page, some times map page and that's it.
