Default Bananas are bad luck?

So Marty and I pull up to Pedro and have a look around. I took the opportunity to grab a quick bite and had a banana. Marty looks over at me like "WTF are you doing?" I reply eating a banana! He then goes on to tell me I just F*cked up the whole day. I've never heard of this! Can someone shed some light, I'm a little slow sometimes!

Bull ****
its all in your head, sounds like an excuse for a bad day
of course I will walk under ladders, break mirrors, let black cats cross in front of me in my car, open umbrellas inside.
I guess if I believed in bad luck I would be dead by now.

Try taking a banana on a charter boat and Hawaii and see what happens!

Asked my deck hand in Costa Rica if he had ever heard of Bananas being bad luck and he told me a story about the time he showed up to work on his first charter boat with a banana in his lunch bag. The captain told him if he ever brought a banana on board his boat again he would stick it up his .......... !

The whole thing started because bananas spoil fast and would ruin all the provisions on early sailing voyages back in the 1800s.

I always thought it started because when they would bring them back in the bunches there were black tiranchulas or something like that, in the bunches that would bite the crew?
