I ordered a bunch of the stuff in anticipation of the Stren Oroville before the date change. I have never actully fished it though. Figured it may have been a good technique for that lake and time of the year.

I've always wanted to give that a shot. I picked up some small marabou jigs to use as the "fly" and the float and stoppers but haven't gotten a chance to try. From what I've read, it's killer on Smallies.

If you got spots and smallies it will work DYNAMITE for your lake. I don't do so well with largemouths with it. Works best in Clear water and roughly below 50 degrees. It's probably the easiest technique to learn. I got an article in Bass Anglers Guide coming out in this next issue . It's definitely a tactic you western guys can learn from the eastern guys. You'd $hit yourself on the quality of fish you will catch on that little ol fly . LOL

Hey mike what is a good rod to use on a floatin fly set up?
I have been meaning to give it a try, but whenever we have bad weather I usually pick up a swimbait for the big spots.
I am sure it would work in some of the northern california resevours though.

Josh, I have 3 different float n Fly rods. I actually like the Silstar rod. It's a $30.00 rod. You don't need a high end rod for bobber fishing. Bass Pro makes a decent Float N Fly rod it's called a Micro Lite. The problem with the low end float n fly rods is they don't balance for $hit. Dobyns needs a F n F rod since he's a stickler for balance like myself.

I'm actually thinking of building me a custom F n F rod to my specs since nobody makes a decent one that is balanced at a decent price.

I will say if you have a choice between a 9ft rod and a 10ft rod. Definitely choose the 10 footer.

I know you fish Shasta and Oroville, Dude you GOTTA try this up there. It's silly how good it works. BIG SPOTS too!!

I'm sure it would work in Lake Sonoma, there are some decent size smallies there.

TMike, wish it would work up here, but I'm having a hard time casting a 40 foot leader between the float n fly...our smallies are just too deep to make it work here.

It sure is effective though for winter bass wherever you can get your fly in their face.

ciao,
Marc
