To be honest - I think they both suck! I guess you go with the lesser of two evils!

FYI
My MINNKOTA IS A PILE OF CRAP!!!!! and they won't do a thing for me. It's been fixed 4 times and its less than a year old. Makes crappy noises. The lift assist arm broke off and its never laid flat on the mount EVER!! I have to strap it down everytime I go on plain.

I've used both but only had the MG on my personal boats. I've used them for the last 8/9 years, never had a failure of the motor or the mount. The only problem I've had with my MG is in severe rain the electronics in the pedal will sometimes get wet and the thing won't stop running.

I've had both. My motorguide was definetly noisier. My buddy had three motorguides that were lemons. My first minnkota I didn't have the strap to hold it down and that pin right in the center got bent in a whitecapped kidney buster on clearlake. I **** near tore it off in the delta. I fished that Kota for months tore all to ****. I would hammer on that thing with a rubber mallet. Wich by the way I recommend for every one to keep on their boat it really comes in handy at times. Gene at the hook looked at that motor and couldn't believe it was still running. My new one I've had for a year. Forgot to strap it down and bent the center pin slightly but I just hammerd it in. I'd recommend putting two straps to hold it down and a ram mount and your new one and always strap it on a long run. It will save it. I can tear up anything. So far the Kota has been the tuffer of the two.

I havent had problems with either one, except when in grass. The minnkota cuts through the grass 100 times better. Thats why I think minnkota a step above.

i love the Minn Kota 101s....they are great and I don't run into and shorting outs or problems. The MG's are great as well...but personally my should hurts after using the MG all day...the Minn Kotas save your back a lot of pain if you get the lift assist!
