Default My week at the FLW guard

First of all Thanks to everybody who was rooting for me. And good Jobb to Robert F on a top 20 finish. now knowing his last name I know why he just uses "F"

Day 1 I drew JAY Yelas. Super guy. We fished deep rock all day. Spots I fish. Neither of us could get bit on anything except a DD22 until 1pm. We watch the guy next to us catch 30 fish. some on jigs, most on DD22. but I threw, dragged the book. I ended with 3 bites, 2 fish, one undersize. 2lbs7oz. Jay ended with 9 bites for 8 fish (4 next to the guy who caught 30 ) for around 18lbs. 6 on the DD22 and 2 jig fish.

Day 2 Clark smalls. Great guy. He was the guy who caught 30 fish next to us yesterday. But this Day he only mangaged 6 fish for 13lbs, all DD22. how his bite slowed. this Day I made some ajustments. Downsized everything from line to bait size. slowed down from an already slow pace and got familiar with my sweet Powell spinning rods. This Day I got 5 bites for 5 fish weighing 15lbs. My pattern was I would catch a fish, then break/snag that lure and have to change rods and then catch one on that. repeat.

Day 3 Ron Hammet from San Diego area. another swell guy. fished deeper water that I was familiar with so I jigged 6 fish for 13lbs. I only really felt 2 bites. the rest sooo suttle.
Ron ended with 2 fish for 4lbs. One on a dd22 and one on a rattletrap.

I would say it was a great week. I am stoked I was able to come back and almost get a check. I didnt give up and so glad I fished the back of the boat 1 more time. Only regret is I didnt get a limit on day 1 I would have been top 10 but thats fishing.

I can't imagine how hard it would be, especially on a lake you know like the back of your hand to not be able to just pull your trolling motor up and split to another spot when the one you're fishing is not producing.

All and all, you did good, great come back Mike.

Way to hang tough BMX! After a 2 lb opening day coming back and cracking into the top 30 or so is a good comeback.

Thanks Mike. Good detective work matching the Robert with the "F" in 89 guys

I know it is tough to bite your lip when you get driven around your home lake. Hopefully it expanded your approach to some of that water. Fishing was pretty tough IMO when compared to practice. What was your benchmark for adjustment rather than grinding it out and hoping they would come fishing behind the boater's pattern? Seems weather wasn't as big a factor as I thought it to be. Maybe pressure?
