Ok. I couldn't stand it anymore - I just had to know. I took a short ride out to Nicasio and fished for an hour. I took two swimbait rods, a jig rod, and a flutter spoon. Within the first 15 min I lost both swimbaits
. I threw the spoon for a few minutes and kept looking over my shoulder at my jig rod. The location I fished was a steep rocking area that went from 0-30 ft pretty quickly - the place just felt Jiggy. So I picked up the jig rod and about 15 minutes later I was rewarded with this little gem. She/he/it went about 4 lbs. The jig was one of Lefty's football jigs. I was dragging it up the embankment (pretty slow with little to no pause). The trailer was a Berkley Chigger Craw. I was impressed with the hook set right at the top of the mouth. I really didn't have to give it much - that hook was sharp and it must have been in good position to almost self set (see photos).
The throat and upper lip were redish. I have heard that this means they are feeding on crawdads. I have also heard that this means the water is cold. I don't know which it means but I know I don't see that much in the summer.
