Default Clear Lake vs. Falcon

Well,

I've been at Falcon for a week now and the weather has sucked. Really cold, wind, and rain. Record low temperatures and water temps.

The fishing has been great for some people, pretty crappy for me.

The lake is very good and holds alot of fish in specific areas. 90% of the lake is scattered fish and 10% holds schooled up giants. If you catch one big fish in an area there are others there too. Its a great lake for pattern fishing.

Clear Lake can definitely stack up against the best in the country and each has its own strong suits. Falcon has a lot of bass from 8-10 lbs whereas Clear Lake has a lot of 4-6lb fish. Tilapia grow the fish big here where hitch get the Clear Lake fish big.

In one week this lake will be awesome. Patterns right now that are catching fish are carolina rig with the biggest watermelong red flake bait you could put on. I used strike king iguanas and brush hogs and it had to be presented really slowly.

There are a lot of things that make Falcon Lake a cool place to go, but Clear Lake is still just a few hours from most Northern CA cities and makes it much easier for a day trip.

I have been blogging about my experience fishing the FLW Stren and soon the FLW Tour as a co-angler. Take a look at leftcoastbass.com to check it out.

Being a Texan and having never fished Falcon I am super jealouse of you. I have fished some big fish lakes in North Texas and my PB came out of there a couple of years ago. The biggest things people dont understand is the big differances in fishing Texas lakes vs. California ones. Most lakes in Tx have tons of big cover like stand ups and laydowns + docks. Were as most places here in NorCal like CL and the Delta have cover like tulies or docks but not much else. My brother who still lives in Texas can not even imagine how you start to locate fish on a place like the Delta with all the islands and just the massive size of the fishery. Were as when I fished with him in Tx I ask the same Q's, which trees hold fish and which ones dont? It is truly a hard one to figure out.

There is a reason these FLW and BASS pro's are a special breed. To be able to go to some of these lakes and have success were most of us would spend days hunting and pecking around/asking locals ect. these guys go out and find em and catch em.

Good luck down there and most importantly have fun!!!
