Default Rago BV 3D problems?

Anyone else have problems with the line through ripping right away? The plastic is really soft with no insert to protect the plastic from ripping from the weight to the hole in the nose of the bait. I've had 2 rip within a few casts. Had to mend it then insert a small coffee straw and superglue it in. Very disappointing

#1 Heat the weight and then put it back in. That will melt the plastic onto the weight and it will stay in place much better. I even went as far as to cut some more flanges into the weight with a pocket knife before I heated it and slipped it back into the bait.

#2 The first run of BV3D's were made with Osprey inserts due to the high demand for the baits and the lack of time to get them to everyone who wanted them. The weights still don't come out easily but, they can come out. All of them after the first few dozen have a new "Rago" insert with bigger flanges that will not pull out as easy as the ones you have.

BTW - the Osprey inserts work great in the Osprey baits - by no means am I blaming their inserts!

I am sure there will be a simple mod that Tom L. or someone will come up with if that is indeed the case.

Where did you buy it. If you bought it here I can help you.

Here's a photo of the old insert vs. the new insert. He only made baits with the old insert for about 2 days - so there aren't many of them!

As you can see these should hold quite a bit better.

I here what you are talking about but with all swimbaits there is a fine line between soft enough to catch fish and hard enough to last . That is were the soft glues come in to play.

Tom, I think the issue with the insert is the length, and not so much slippage of the insert. It's a bit short. It leaves a good bit of length between the front end of the insert and the hole in the head where the line goes in. That's where the damage is appearing. The line slices through that soft plastic section between the insert and front of the bait. Aside from that, they flat out rock.

That's not the only bait that does that - every line through bait I have does that on occasion. Top Shelf, Osprey, Pro Swimbaits all do it. Trying to think of other line throughs I have used... no I think that is about it.

I do think that there is a solution - let me work on it a bit I will figure out a trick for it. I have an idea already. However, I think the new inserts are better either way.

A friend of mine is having the same issue. From what I can tell the plastic is too soft and the weight is ripping through.
