Default 13 Teams and $1885 to WON BASS Pyramid Champions

High gusting winds did not detour 13 teams (no comps) from converging on Pyramid Lake for the WON BASS season opener Saturday, January 19. Billy and Bobby Nelson went to work with a half ounce football head jig in 15 to 50 feet of water and put together a 13.74 pound bag and calmly collected a whopping $1855 for the victory! The Nelsons reported catching a dozen bass during the course of the day and while attempting to cull Bobby pulled out a 1oz. willow leaf spinner bait and slow rolled it in 20 feet of water to knock off the biggest bass of the tournament weighing 4.89 pounds. Angel Perez and Gil Valadez had won the last two major tournaments held on Pyramid Lake. They showed up Saturday morning with all intentions of winning three in a row. But they were denied as the Nelsons were just too much to handle on Saturday. Gil and Angel just missed the mark but captured valuable tournament points and a strong second-place finish and collected $525 with their 12.16 pound bag of bass. Gil explained how they focused on a variety of plastic worm techniques throughout the day to put together their bag. Rounding out the money list in third place was Ryan Wischnack and his partner Brandon Baker. They collected $425 in cash or their efforts and 108 points towards the May 4th WON BASS SoCal Region Tournament of Champions to be held on Castaic Lake. The next tournament on the WON BASS SoCal region tour will be February 2 at Castaic Lake West ramp. Anglers can sign in at the Denny's restaurant in Castaic one hour before sunup. Complete results can be found below and at www.wonbass.com. The most special moment of the day was just prior to take off as all of the tournament boats gathered in the marina to have a floating moment of silence for their fellow angler and friend John Ed Wilder. Sadly John Ed Wilder passed away prior to the season opener. He was one of the greatest team tournament anglers to ever fish in the Western United States. He will be greatly missed.
