Default Record Setting Field at WON BASS Casitas Opener 1/11

In record-setting fashion 27 teams wedged their way into the Marina Café to sign up for the WON BASS "Casitas Region" opener Saturday morning January 11, 2014. Anglers had waited all winter long to participate in this tournament and it was amazing to watch 54 excited bass anglers gather in the morning darkness prior to take off at famous Lake Casitas. This was the largest bass fishing tournament whether it be a night tournament or a day tournament held on Lake Casitas since 2008. Western fishing star and big bass expert Mike Arujo went to work with a jigging spoon and a Texas rig plastic worm and captured three bass and a total weight of 15.17 pounds to capture the victory. Only two things went wrong for Mike on Saturday morning. First of all his partner Stan Vanderburg was in the middle of the ocean on a long-range fishing trip so Mike had to fish alone. Mike also elected not to enter the option pool which cost him over $950. He did though gather $1100 in cash and most importantly the champions trophies and an early lead on the 2014 Anger the Year race. In second place were former Anglers of the year Max Escamillia and Al Escamillia as they put together 11.81 pounds and captured second-place and $1350 in cash. The father-son team of Bill Cook and Cody Cook fished there way to third-place with 3 bass weighing a total of 10.91 pounds and collected $850 in cash for their days work. In fourth place where brothers Ron Hagan and Chris Hagan as they dropped a 10.19 pound bag of bass on the scales and collected $580 in cash. One of the great highlights of the day was an all time record setting amount paid to the winner of the big bass. Dwayne Stiles was forced to fish alone because he's great friend and partner Cy Chan was ill with a cold. Dwayne made that perfectly cast with a big swim bait first thing in the morning and captured a 8.80 pound bass and gathered a record-setting $875 in cash for that one cast. The next event on the WON BASS "Casitas Region" tournament trail is set for February 8, 2014.
