We had a "kickass" morning out on the forebay yesterday! The day started out on the down hill. We always get a dozen or so jumbo minnows at either one of the two stores in Santa Nella that sell them. We also like to be on the water at sunrise. We roll into town and find out the first store doesn't open until 7am! So we head to store #2 which doesn't open until 8am! Great. We head to breakfast instead of the water.
We get to the store when they open and no minnows! Just great. The ladies, who were awesome, sold us some "mudsuckers" instead. Never used them but, what choices did we have? I grab a bag of frozen anchovies also.
We get on the water around 7:30. Using my electronics, I notice fish were deep and away we go. Numerous bites right away in 25-30 feet. I threw some swimbaits for a bit with no luck. I then see fish busting the rocky shoreline. I grab a spook and blast over there. For about a 1/2 hour I had the most fun fishing I've had in a long time! They HAMMERED that spook on just about every other cast! I had a blast!
Anyway to make a long story short, we caught many fish in the morning and but, after 11am........nothing. Our largest was about 22 inches.
