The whether man called for heavy rains and high winds for Friday and Saturday but it never arrived. We had the Pre tournament meeting and pairings at The Hook Line & Sinker in Oakley along with a Tri Tip BBQ on Thursday. Pairings were done by 6:15pm and every body went to prepair for the first day.
The fishing was tough the first day with many teams not weighing in fish. The second day it was cloudy with occasional rain but the fish decided to chomp.
Guyle Sternat weighed in a WON BASS record fish of 14.60lbs wouth $10,000.00 dollars great job Guyle.
It was his first fish of the day caught early in the morning he weighed in 2 fish that day for 20.44lbs.
Fishing has been tough but for those of you that listen to KB and I on Saturday mornings we have been talking about these fishing moving and starting to stage for about 2 weeks and that is what they are doing.
The Trees have not started to blossom yet but the big ones are on the move. During pre practice one angler had 5 fish over 10lbs he caught them on jigs on deep ledges leading to shallow water, these fish would move up one at a time during the day you just had to wait them out. Gyule caught his fish drop shooting with light line.
This time of year I like to check the breaks in the levies leading into spawning areas. The fish set there feeding up until they are ready to move in and set up their nest. Areas that start to produce first are in the South and East Delta. Both these areas stay cleaner and warm up faster then the rest of the Delta. Andy C was in Franks and had a hay day on Sat. Start with the mouth of your Marinas and the go inside. The reaction bite is starting to pick up. There is a good spinner bait bite colors such as White on White and White/Chart with the same color blades try this around sparse tullies. Swim baits are working slowing rolling them on or near the bottom try this on secondary weed lines. Rattle traps or lucky craft lip less crank baits in red craw and shad colors.
Then you have the old reliable (SENKOS) dead sticking them don't bother with the 5"ones go the the 6" standard colors #208, 330,301 and 297 there is a new color that will be out in about a month exclusive to the Hook that has been very productive and it's just in time for the spawn.
West Delta is very muddy middle Delta is stained, water temp is 50+.
