Default Moonlight fishing 8-14-10 Casitas

Got to lake at 4:45 and fishing was tough. Wind was blowing really hard from the west which made fishing most deep spots hard. Had a buddy move to Moorpark a couple months ago with me and he got one small 2lber drop shotting 30ft of water. Fished more deep areas and humps for nothing on jigs and worms(tiny 2" to 13"). Moved to shallow water 15ft and less to no avail. Fished 2 areas with cranks and buzzbaits and had 3 blow ups on the buzzer landing one about 4lbs.

About 9:45ish my buddy got a nice 6lber on a shallow crankbait(one that I will keep quiet for his and my sake) and that was the end of the bites for us. Fished shallow and deep rest of the night SLOWLY for nothing.

All around a brutal night for us. Fished the normal night spots and nothing really going on. I don't feel so bad as I spoke to my old man and he fished the night fishing at Castaic and by 11:00ish he'd got one small bite and nothing landed.

Eric

Was a tough night for sure. I took a friend with me who is a boring trout fisherman. Can't cast worth a **** and complains alot - let's move, theres no fish, etc. So I started my evening around 4:30 and I put him on a good Crank bite - but we cheated with the cranks - we were trolling Norman DLN's in 20" of water. We had 13 fish to 4 pounds by dark and I farmed a 8-9 at the boat near Hwy 150. Any time the wind is brutal I can allways stir up a good bite on the troll. After dark was a whole different story. I threw everthing at them with 2 missed fish on the worm and left around 11:30. Last month was better for sure.

Byron, trolling cranks at that lake can be pretty darn good for sure! Used to be a very productive way for my dad and I until we got our Triton.

Kinda hard to troll with the big motors huh? I think I saw you launching as we were eating our Corner market Belly Buster sandwiches on the ramp around 4:30-4:45. I was the white S-10 4X4 with the little Nitro/Optimax combo over by the handycap parking area.

Fished the DVL night derby and it sucked too. Must be the moon phase or possibly the fish are getting used to the Summer night poundage.

Kevin,

Sorry it sucked for you as well a few hours away...must have been the moon phase that had the night all messed up!
