Default Chief strikes again, live without a boat 9.8 pound bass

Hey Everyone,

Been fishing the last two days at casitas from the shoreline. Good topwater bite on Sammies and Deps buzz baits. I changed up and threw out by the launch ramps with a senko and nailed a 9.8 pound bass. I wish she was in spawn mode, almost forgot she was 27 inches long. She put up a great fight not okay you caught me and roll over and give up.

Nice fish - Did it have the head of a 12 pounder and the body of a eel? Seems like most of the fish over 4=5 pounds have been rather deformed, skinny, and pale with big heads lately. The 2-3 pounders are strong and healthy as ****. Todays fish were still ill looking.

I would say yes, the smaller fish, 5 to 6 pounds are a bit thin and are not looking so good. The lake keeps adding chems to kill weeds and stuff. it has to be taking a toll on the bass. hard to say, I see this more at the desert lakes and at Lake powell and martinez. Skinny bass and big heads.... chief

Kane-O...Casitas wont see trout anymore. We are on our own and hope the damm lake will figure something out. But due to the steelhead in the Ventura River, they won't stock casitas again. So the days of the giant swimbait fish are done! Now days if you get good ones they generally come on a jig or reaper. its like the OLD days in the 80's for the big ones.

Off topic; Casitas may not be getting regular DFG trout stocked due to the extinct steelhead in the dry or seasonally wet Ventura river. Casitas dam fish ladder, $6 million project that our tax money built, for steelhead to enter the lake.
Casitas can purchase trout to stock, however the bass may not be targeting them as the trout are not an abundant prey source.
The lake is in low water condition and appears to have had a good spawn. Your chances of catching 10-12 lb bass are still very good.
Catching a giant over 15 lbs is rare.
I would be very happy if the lake was a good as was back in the 80's, my PB Casitas bass was a 18.6 lb jig fish caught 9 Feb '81.
