Lake Oroville Stren
I had a overall pretty successful tournament. I made my third consecutive top 10, finishing 8th place overall. I am currently leading in the AOY race for this season and am looking forward to protecting my lead at the California Delta.
The week leading up to the tournament was overall pretty tough for me. Each day I was there it seemed like the bite was getting a lot worse. I attribute the bite declining each day to the pressure of the other fisherman on the lake. I never had 9lbs of fish in practice and I was there for four days. I was MORE than pleased to weigh 9lbs a day to make the cut.
I caught my fish with different techniques during the week and a lot of different style baits. My most consistent bite was throwing the Jackall Flickshake. The Flickshake is a very versatille bait and can be fished a lot of different ways. For me I was throwing a 5.8 flickshake in Green Pumpkin Candy with the 1/8 head slowly working it on the bottom. I targeted spots on the main lake. The better fish were in 25-35 feet of water. It seemed like the fish down deeper weighed about 1/4 -1/2 more than the fish on the bank. I really think that this made me the cut. I was also catching better fish on the Dry Creek tube in the green pumpkin color. I was fishing the tube in the exact locations I would fish the Flickshake.
Im preparing my trip to the delta this week. I am really looking forward to protecting Angler of the Year. Wish Me luck!
