Day 1 Columbia River
Surprise Surprise! The night before the event I was in my room checking out a map and saw a break that looked pretty good. I had never been to the spot before, but with nothing going I figured what the heck. So Gary and I ran over there and it was loaded with smallied. Gary and I both got a limit in no time and I decided to leave it for later in the tournament.
We each culled one fish later in the day. I am thrilled with 13.06 and only 6 ounces from second. I never would have guessed that I'd have that kind of weight. Gary and I had a blast fishing on a gorgeous Oregon day.
Tomorrow brings some new obstacles as the wind is supposed to blow 30. That means 6 footers and tough fishing. I am just hoping to get a limit - I'll take 6 lbs.
The fish came on finesse baits with late day reaction fish for the cull. All my fish were smallmouth.
Congrats to Gary Haraguchi, my co-angler, as he sits in the lead for the co's. Keep it up Gary.
I'll check back in tomorrow.
