Default Basics of seasonal jig fishing

Mike in your question answer forum can you tell us your take on seasonal jigging. What styles of jigs from finesse to pitching and flipping work best on different types of structure what too look for when fishing shallow and deep water structure and what you need to target on getting into the winter months and in early & late spring and summer and into the fall months. What types of trailers you should use on your jigs. The different types of jigs you like to fish with. I myself only fish lakes some like the Delta but I'm not into flipping I'm more into light wire custom jigs I do myself.

Mark

I use Duane Dunstone's homemade football jigs on structure, the weight varies with the depth of the structure. I generally use 1/2 to 1/4 oz. I use a Maverick Arkie type jig in brush, tules, and grass. Generally a 3/8 or 1/2 oz. Steep, rocky banks, I sometimes use a 3/4 - 1 oz handmade football for a reaction bite. 1 oz - 1 1/2 jig for punching heavy cover during post spawn.

I generally use pork and hair in the winter and plastic the rest of the time such as Yamamoto, Powerbaits, and Zoom.

Winter - pork
Spring - craws
Summer - swimming tails
Fall - swimming and craws

Winter - deep on rocky structure
Spring - ledges leading to spawning areas
Summer - outside points and ledges
Fall - outside points and ledges adjacent to main river channel

There are so many variables that I could write another book, but these are just some of the basics.
