Default HD5 Temp. reading

The Temp on my 5 is reading about 2 degrees high. How do I calibrate it to the right temp reading? Also is the soft reset the same as on the 10?

The soft reset is the same on all HDS units.

As for the temp. reading 2 degrees high, does that really matter? I use temp readings to find temp changes in a creek arm for example. It doesn't matter what the exact temp is, it matters that you have a temp break. Besides if you are asking someone near you what their temp says and assume yours is wrong, how do you know, maybe theirs is wrong.

The fish don't do the same thing at an exact water temp anyway so use temp for reference. Go fishing and let the fish tell you exactly what's going on. Another thing to think about is that the temp of the water down where your fish are varies from surface down in different variables.

Hey Ken, it matters to me as I just paid 150 dollars to have the temp gauge added and besides that I'm old and set in my ways. It can be done I've been told. Your advice is right on line by the way but as I said, I would prefer it right. By the way, what does the soft reset do? As you can undoubtly tell I'm mentally handicapped when it comes to the newer electronics. Also on my unit which I have undoubtly screwed up I have a lot of surface noise like 5 or 6 feet deep on my unit. If you're ever in Lakeport I'd like to meet you.

The soft reset is a reset to factory default settings. These set the unit back to the way it was out of the box when new with the exception of your saved waypoints, routes and trails. They are still saved in the unit. Any overlay data you had placed on any of your screens will be reset to the factory settings. I'll check on the temperature adjustment.

OK, Coyote268,

I finally found where you can change your temperature and calibrate it. Hit Menu twice and go to Sonar and hit enter. Use the arrow keys to go down to Installation and hit enter. The fourth box down on this menu is where you can change the reading on your temperature. Be sure to save your changes. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you.
