Default Interference on HDS8

Its kinda wierd...HDS on bow gets "noise" when TM on, but only when the HDS is at 20ft or more in range. Does the HDS get more sensitive at greater depths? The noise goes away if I am set at -3 to -5 sesitivity, but I am probably missing stuff at that setting. TM is a '08 motorguide tour 109 . I check all the wires and they are all seperated from the 36vdc. Just switched over to HDS's my lcx27 didn't have this problem. I saw the other post regarding the 332 but this happend when I switched to HDS's. 10 at the console does't have the problem...still troubleshooting but would love some input...

Since the HDS unit doesn't have any problems by itself you need to look at the trolling motor as the cause. It's usually a ground problem inside the trolling motor. The ground wire that goes from the direction indicator light down to the brush plate is either loose at one end or the other or something like that. There have been instances like a flat spot on the brushes causing an arc that the ducer picks up or a bent armature that causes a slight vibration that the ducer is picking up. The trolling motor works fine but the HDS unit picks up the issue.

The HDS units have the broadband sonar built in and this is a more sensitive receiver in the transducer than what you were used to with the LMS 520 so that is why you are seeing the interference now.

Thanks for the input Ken, I did have the TM repaired just befor this. I'll check the grounds. I do remember resetting my indicator arrow after it was repaired, maybe I knocked that wire clip off the post under the indicator.
