Default Question?

I just bough a HDS-8 with insight got a good deal and i was going to put it on my consul but now I am going to by a HDS-10 for the consul and put the 8 up front.

Should I get the base model 10 and put the navionics chip in it or get the insight model with the navionics chip?? does it make a difference?

So what is the best one to by for my money I want to do it right so any input would be appreciated.

Lowrance has licensed with different companies for the mapping that is loaded into their electronics. The HDS units have Insight mapping packages of your choice in them. When you purchase an HDS unit be sure to choose the correct mapping package for your needs.

The base map choice is for a person who prefers the mapping detail on a map card like Navionics, Lakemaster or Hot Maps for example.

The Nautic Insight is for navigable waters around the country like the San Joaquin Delta, the Colombia River and the coastline of the ocean here in the west.

The Lake Insight is the inland lakes around the country that have been surveyed and included in this mapping package.

The Insight USA is the Lake Insight and Nautic Insight all included in the preloaded mapping. This is the most common choice for bass fishermen out here who fish lakes and the Delta.

The lakes that are included on different cards or in units preloaded with mapping will differ and a list of the maps included should be looked at if you are looking for a specific lake.

Here is a link to a list of Insight Mapping lakes that are covered.

Default Re: Question?

Ken, how can you tell which version you have from the unit itself? Thanks

Hit Menu twice, go up to System, hit enter, go down to About and hit enter. In the menu screen that comes up you will see "Application". This is the version of software that is currently in your unit.

If the set of numbers is smaller than the version that is currently on the website then you will need to update your HDS unit. There is no cost associated with the ability to update to the most current version of software. Check every few months to see if Lowrance has released a newer version of software for your units as they are constantly figuring out new stuff to help us. From new shortcuts, improving the speed of the units, to interpretation of sonar and more.
