Ken: Is there a way to check and see if my unit and transducer is working properly without being on the water?

Sort of. If you turn the unit on the screen should start scrolling from right to left. The depth will flash but once in a while get a lock on the driveway or garage floor and say 5 or 6 feet. The sound ping travels three times faster in air than water so the depth reading will be about three times the actual distance. This means with your boat on the trailer the transducer is about 1 1/2 to 2 feet off the ground. When it gets a lock the depth will read 5 to 6 feet. It will flash more than have the lock. It's hard for the unit to get a lock out of the water. If you get this then the unit is probably working.
