Forrest Wood Cup in Pittsburgh

This is going to be my first Forrest Wood Cup and I am super excited. The time is coming being it is only two weeks away. This place is really hard getting ready for. First of all, you can't find any detailed maps of the river. The only maps you can find are city maps. Second, there isn't that many tournaments out there so finding local information on past tournaments is difficult.

I was lucky enough to get to go out and get some time in right before the off limits. Everthing that you heard about the Three Rivers about it being tough is true! The place is really hard to find keepers. Finding fish is no problem but keepers is another story. In 3 days on the water I only had 7 keepers over 12 inches.

I really think that if a guy can put together a limit each day of 5 to 6 pounds he can make the cut. Maybe not even that much. . I heard that there are some occasional 3-4 pounders out there but they are really hard to find.

On my final day of practice there was a local club team tournament with over 60 boats and 5 pounds 9 ounces won! WOW. The top five teams all had limits over 4 pounds with there only being one over 5.

As far as baits it seemed like everthing worked. You can throw plastics to hardbaits and catch um.

I know that the bite is going to be tough, but someone is still going to be a champion. So I really look foward to the challenge. 5 12 inchers a day! I will keep you updated though out my practice and tournament.

Cody
