Cody Meyer	FLW Forrest Wood Cup Lake Lanier Sorry guys for the delay. It all started off with pre-practice. With in the first hour of getting to Lake Lanier I felt right at home. I grew up fishing Northern California Lakes with spotted bass, and found that they fished almost the same durning the summer time. With the expection of man-made brush piles and blue back herring. Almost every point or bank in the whole lake seemed to have some kind of brush on it. I spent most of my time doing practice looking around the lower part of the lake. When looking at past results I had found that most of the bigger spots and winning bags were caught down there. Durning practice I never really caught any big ones but I left feeling good about what I had found. Offical practice: My offical practice started off exactly were I had left off. I started every morning throwing topwater, but never had any takers. I basically looked for as many brush piles located on steeper drops or breaks in 25-40 feet of water that I could find. The other key was the newer-greening brush. The brush that had been recently dropped. When you found the 2 together it was game on. I felt like I had about 20 different waypoints were I could catch fish. As far as baits it was all the drop-shot. Day 1: I was boat 78 out. The last one! I started off making the 30 minute run down to the dam were I was stoked to find no one on my spot. When I trolling motored up to my first brush pile I notice that the fish were suspend about 10-15 feet above the bottom. I quickly dropped a Jackall cross tail shad down there and caught a 3 pounder. Within 30 minutes of doing this between 2 brush piles I caught 5 weighing 14-11. I had one die which brought my total to 14-3 leaving me in 4th after day one. I had caught around 10 keepers total without burning up a lot of my good water. Day 2: Today I was boat 1 out and the game plan was the same as day 1. Only today the fish seemed to not susepend as much and located deeper in the brush. The bite slowed down only catching 5 keepers. Thank god they were all the right bites. I had a total of 13-3 moving me up to 1st place!!! I couldn't believe that I had another chance at winning the cup. I was really happy after day 2 but knew that it was going to be hard to catch them for 2 more days. Day 3: Same game plan as before. Today I started off with about 40 locals following me which was cool. The only thing that made it tuff was all the interference from there sonars to mine. I had a hard time seeing the fish clearly. The bite was really tuff as well. I only had 2 little ones at 1:30. Between 1:40 and 3:00 I had put 3 more in the boat. All which were around 3 pounds. I had a total of 11-5 putting me in 2nd place and making the top 6 cut. Day 4: Final Day! I was really excited to get the today started. I again made the run down only to find that on my first stop my front sonar had gone out. I lost around 2 prime hours of fishing without my graph. Because I had used my sonar to catch 95% of my fish that week it was like finding a needle in a hay stack without one. Finally Cherly from Lowrance made it down and got me going again. I had to work hard to make up for lost time. I ended up pulling in number 5 around 2:30. I was happy with a limit but the size wasn't there. I had 10-5 raw weight and after a 8 ounce penality for a dead one 9-13 total. Good enough for 2nd place behind winner Kevin Hawk. I was bummed to not win but it was still a huge victory for me. Just to be in the top 3 back to back years was amazing. Tackle: Powell 732 ML spinning rod with a Abu Garcia Soron STX spinning reel. 6-pound-test Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon rigged with a Jackall cross tail shad in (purple weenie and baby bass) and a 6" straight tail roboworm in the morning dawn color.
