NorCal90	Re: Which side??? Mike, thank you for the stats on beam sizes. It helps to know about how big an area you are looking at. Doug, that is an unbelievable shot, and probably the best example of the benefits. It makes sense that a narrow beam front to back will show more detail in this situation than an oval/round beam putting all of that info at one time (RTS window). Thank you both. DougV	Re: Which side??? Here's an image of where Down Imaging's very narrow front to rear covereage is able to show this shallow, narrow ditch and 2D sonar's wide coverage cannot.

Jason, 200khz/20 degree is 1/3 of depth 83khz/60 degree is Depth x 1 So figure 30ft of water 200khz has 10ft of bottom coverage 83khz has 30ft of bottom coverage Narrow beam is roughly the same as 200khz sonar Medium Beam is roughly the same as 83khz sonar Wide Beam I believe is 75 degrees?? So it's possible that you can see something on DI wide beam and not see it using dual beam. Also figure that DI has the foot print of a straight line unlike sonar which has a circle foot print... NorCal90	Re: Which side??? Good one It makes sense that it would be under the boat, my question is how do you know the width of the beam. (83/200 khz=depth you are fishing). With down imaging you can choose narrow/med/wide beam. How do you know how big the area is that is being shown. Does it use the 455khz to determine the image for down scan? If the beam was as wide as the depth, then it would be possible for the trees to be to the left/right side of the boat, I understand now that you cannot tell which side just by looking at the 2d/downscan, just wondering about beam width. That eliminates 1/3 of the earths surface Side Imaging eliminates alot of the rest Now back to serious part of this discussion. What I'm trying to teach here is that Down Imaging is like 2D traditional sonar. It covers a specified area and all the data in that area are compiled together in a single view. Now QuadraBeam Sonar and Side Imaging has unique features because they not only tell you whats under boat but also to which side they are. Isn't it easier to make a cast to fish if you know which side they are on? Here is the Side Imaging of the above image: Is it easier to tell which side of the transducer you need to be casting to if you wanted to fish.

DougV	Re: Which side??? All you need is a Photo Viewing Program like Microsoft Paint or I use Microsoft Office Picture Manager to View Screen Captures on the Computer...

NorCal90	Re: Which side??? I'm trying Mike, I just haven't been able to play with the down imaging (only used twice since installing). I am trying to go by memory after looking at some of the other images you and Doug have put up. The last time out was the first time I actually took screen captures, I still need to figure out how to view them on my computer.. Thank you guys for giving us these views to help speed up our learning curve.... Jason Bubier
