Re: When its to cold to fish

Got this from MN today, I don't get cold here.

We ***** went ice fishing up in the Brainerd, MN area at Cross Lake and had some pretty good fishing. It was our 23rd. HBMBW, ******* Boys Male Bonding Weekend, ice fishing extravaganza. We caught one Walleye that weighed between 4 or 5 lbs. and one Northern Pike that weighted between 5 and 6 lbs. We at times had two or three fish on and usually had action about every 30 to 45 min., on average. It was a cold MF, with high winds and cold wind chills. We usually go around my b-day which is Jan. 20th and statically that's the coldest week of the year. The week before we went up the wind chill factor for most of MN was -30 or more. Lots of schools closed because the wind chill's were below -40 and the diesel in the busses gelled.
Hope you and Barbara are doing well and getting the new year off to a good start. Before I forget, happy b-day next month on the 16th..!

Greg,

Man that is your bother you should send him a real rod and reel and not let me fish with a kids toy – just kidding

Why don’t you come on down to the delta and let me take you fishing. The way I figure it – me and a few friends can put you in the boat before we launch. Then we will launch. We will put your char in the boat and we make the run and once we get there I set up the char and put you right on the spot to fish. My boat has the room to set up your char. What say you?
Thanks for the invite. By the time I drove to the delta, I need a day to recoop from the drive. Then after a day on the water, I need a day to recoop from fishing. I don't travel as well as I used to. 5 years ago, I'd be in the car already.

for me personally, its when the water is frozen. I just dont see ice fishing as something I want to do. But up untill that point you will see me out on the water

Many times the DNR (Division of Natural Resources) totally poisons lakes in minnesota and restocks with game fish. They do it to get rid of carp. But car will go way back up into farm field drainage tile where there kind find enough oxygen to survive and eventually come back. I don't believe there's a wanton waste law on Carp in Minnesota.

Anyone ever eaten carp? I did once when I was 12. Had to try it. It only took once to realize I never wanted to try again.

He's been catching 12" perch which is a huge perch. They rival Walleye in taste and yes they eat em but like I said, "Unlike CA they really do have 10,000 lakes." The state put a lot of money into the fisheries and people travel from all over the world to fish it. The lakes have more fish now than when I was a kid.

Wow, those are some real pretty gold fish, where are all the strawhats / cane poles, if the action is so good? I have heard the way to cook Gafelda fish is to boil it for 3 days?
