Dorcas Navionics chips can be better than the Insight mapping currently in the HDS units. Check out the body of water you are fishing and compare the data. If the added data on the Navionics chip is worth the money, pull the trigger. Lowrance is working on individual lake survey's and updating the map data that will be in the future HDS units.

Ken Sauret Conway,

I live in Paso Robles, California.

The transducer you had for the LCX 332c is the same one you would use for the HDS 9 Touch. The string of bubbles you describe with the half arch is exactly what you should see. If you have another unit on while you have the touch unit on, then you will get vertical lines as interference. Any small dark blue dots which can clutter the screen is normal "stuff" to have on the screen.

If you are not seeing any arches, then there probably not any fish under you. Everything sounds right. If you want to eliminate the clutter you can turn down the sensitivity a little and it will go away. When you do this you will be eliminating any small baitfish that you may go over also so I find it better to look "through" any clutter I see on the screen. More time getting used to what you are seeing and learning to interpret those images is the best advise I can give you.

conway where are you located? i would love to have you look at my unit. i have an HDS touch 9" that i hooked up n place of the old LCS332 i think is what i had. my sonar does not seem to be working right. i seem to have a lot of garbage showing up on the screen. I am wondering if the thru hule transducer i have is not working correctly? i just do not seem to be getting many arches.. when i come across bubbles i get the half arch that shows me the bubbles i believe? i have it set on auto and i just seem to have a lot of stuff on the screen and not seeing fish? do you think the transducer may be bad? i am wondering if they are not compatible? the blue end screws on so i figured it was the right one since it connect correctly. i woudl love to have some one look at it that knows what they are looking at.. thanks

Ken Sauret We're doing great over here. Look for me on the water and stop me next time you see me. I'll get in your boat and show you some stuff on your HDS 9 Touch.

Ken Sauret If you save the waypoints from the 520c they should load onto the HDS unit with no problem. They are in the same format. Make sure they are on the card.

The Elite transducer will only work in an Elite unit. The cable end connection is different from the HDS ducers.

Doc Samson has the best instructional DVD's available. Do a search on line for his stuff. Fish show up as little white specs on the Structure Scan. Because of the higher frequency you get a great pic of the structure and the broadband sonar shows fish the best hence the need for both types of sonar.

Questions re Lowrance HDS 9 touch

Ken,

1. How do I get my waypoints from my old 520C's to my HDS9. It doesn't seem to be reading the card from the 520C.

2. Would a Navionics chip help clarify the GPS readings? We need a definition of the map icons and would like more labeling of the names of the bays, etc. on the lakes to clarify where we are. We've found the Lowrance Insight labeling inadequate.

3. Would a separate HDS Elite 7 transducer work on an HDS 9 touch to provide downscan and sonar pictures for the front of the boat or do I have to get an structure scan transducer for the trolling motor which I prefer not doing? I'm running everything from the HDS 7 unit from the back of the boat presently and would like to get sonar and down imaging separately to the front.

4. We need help reading the side scan imaging. We read the water column okay but are having trouble locating if there are any fish markings on the side. Can you recommend an instructional DVD on structure scan reading?

Love the units....Tom and Judy
