There are lots of the HDS units mounted in various dash mounts and the internal GPS antenna works great. The only thing I can think of to look for is to make sure there is no metal of any kind above the unit in the console. It will receive a signal through fiberglass and wood just fine but not metal.

GPS for HDS 5

The HDS 5 says it has an internal antenna. If this unit is installed in the dash will it still work or do I need an external antenna? Thanks, Joe
