Re: May 7th USAC Team results & recap/ Clearlake

Even though the economy has a lot to do with the affects of the turnouts I think it has to do with the generation of anglers. The older generation of fisherman fished as many tournaments as they could because back then it was more a hobby and not so much as a sport to make a living at. Now adays I think that the younger generations look forward to tournaments for money and fame rather than going out and having a good time. Team tournaments are not about the fame and fortune it's about learning, having a good time, and meeting a lot of good people. They are also a base to of starting a career and stepping up to the next level from teams to pro ams then possibly to being a pro. So even if the economy has some affects I think it's the worryness of getting money rather than having a good time.
Just my opinion.

Bails,
I do think the economy is wrecking havoc on boat numbers; however, you're right.. there are still a lot of guys fishing tournaments. The question is how do I/ we convince folks to fish Clearlake. The answer to that was in the second line in your blog, "Seems like all we do is laugh and joke around these days."

When folks shell out the cash to fish I think winning is a goal; but, having a day full of laughter, camaraderie, entertainment, and a chance to win cash is the true desire of folks shelling out the dollars. Also, there is way too much negativity in this business...my Orgs better then yours, Our payouts are better, my TD will kick your TD's...well you get the idea. But, also read what Kickerfish1 said again...

"...my thoughts were you have to fish against the best to be the best. not everybody thinks like that i guess. I'm still trying to beat them....."
Kickerfish1 is one of the best sticks on th lake. I think he replays his entire tournament day over and over and adjusts at his next event. And every tournament Tommy goes out to do his best to beat the best. That's what sports are all about.

Furthermore, being there as an example to a youngster/s is what makes you feel good as a person. Maybe a helping hand, or a few encouraging words are all you can offer someone now. That is always enough. But, you have to be on the playground to make that happen. For example, A-Lo is a young gun, and one reason it makes being a TD worthwhile, energy, excitement, attitude and desire...all dynamite. He's a great stick, a solid young man, and has a great mentor (Wally) and is having a blast fishing...oh those were the days.

It's my responsibility as a TD to be firm and fair, honest with payouts, to be on time, and to appreciate those folks who fish the tournament regardless of the numbers that show up.

So, Bails, what can we do to increase our numbers? Well, you've already taken a step in the right direction by sharing your experience with Brian. When guys that fish events say publicly that they're having a blast, or laughing all day with their partner, still had fun despite losing big fish that could have put them in the AOY race and allowed them to take a couple $$$ thousand dollars home. Sorry Tommy, for putting a little extra mustard on the dog. You will regroup, re-tie and all those fish you missed will be in your livewell soon.

The point is: fun, laughter, and competitiveness are contagious. So, by spreading positive feedback you infect others with the, Participation Desire, because everyone wants to be part something good and rewarding.

Here's an example: If all the folks on the 21 boats that showed for our last event convinced a friend to come out and have fun, laugh, catch fish, and still have a chance to take home a few thousand dollars then there would have an army of 42 advocates to infect the Participation Desire for the next event. And, if half of the 42 advocates were successful then the next event would have 42 boats. If all of the advocates convinced a team to join in the fun, then there would be 63 boats.....theoretically of course.

I think this ideal works no matter what type of event your having, As long as people experience it and know it to be true. They will return.

Of course gas prices and the economy play into the equation; however, if bang for your buck is what's playing at Clearlake, then you can rest assured that folks will buy a ticket to participate.

Anyway...just a thought

Bails i think is because CL has like 5 super teams that fish this lake as a business. and people know there hard to beat. and they dont want to donate. my thoughts were you have to fish aginst the best to be the best. not everybody thinks like that i guess. Im still trying to beat them.....

Re: May 7th USAC Team results & recap/ Clearlake

Great event Terry G! I had a lot of fishing with my partner Brian. Seems like all we do is laugh and joke around these days. team event up here have lost a lot of teams over the last two years. I remember in 09 when we had an average of 40 boats with AC and aba/won bass would pull more than 50. Now we are lucky to see 20 and thats on a really good day and it doesnt matter what org it is. My question is what happened to all the team fishing in Nor cal? Why is it that we cant get more than 20 boats anymore. i dont want to here its the economy because thats a bunch of bs. oroville is about the only lake around getting 30 boat team events and we know thats not a rich side of the hood............that place is a joke(dinks) and they get 30 teams. what the heck happened in the last year or two up here?

Good job at the FLW A-Lo. That's your new nickname. Your a fishing machine. I wish I got to fish 1/4th as much as you! Keep up the good work. Wally knows how to pick his fishing partners that's for sure.

Terry,

It was actually 26th. For anyone that hasn't fished one of Terry's events they are a blast. Good environment and a lot of good sticks. Couldn't get the big bite but had a great time.

May 7th USAC Team results & recap/ Clearlake

What a great tournament!!! Greg McCosker and Wayne Breazele split the big Bass pot with twin 7.32's; but, Greg and Randy weren't splitting the win. Their 28.37 sack took top honors as well as a big chunk of option $$'s. Wayne and Gary were only a bite away from up sizing their bag. Jimmy and Kevin stayed just 8 oz's short of taking home another $500; but, Wayne and Gary maintained their lead to take the extra cash home instead. Team McGeoch tied with Franks and Toponce for 4th. The 6.55 big fish sealed the win for Chris and Alex.

Some of the guys reported going through 2-3 limits of fish, and story after story of huge fish coming unbuttoned, or getting broke off etc (Fish stories?). The fish are in all phases now, pre-spawn, post spawn and spawn. It should continue to be a solid bite for the next 30 days or so. Swimbaits/ Senkos/ Jigs all working. Fish are averaging 3.7 to 4.4 pounds.

See you all on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at konocti Vista Casino. We will start sign ups at 4:15 a.m at Clearlake Outdoors. Safe light appears to be around 05:50a.m. depending on cloud cover. I want to thank all the guys for showing up early for sign ups. That's what allows us to get to the business of fishing earlier.

Thanks again to Troy & Dave at Clearlake Outdoors, Konocti Vista Casino, Dobyns Rods, Lauree Consalvi for taking pictures, and as well as all the anglers for your excellent fish care during the weigh in.

BTW: I think our resident youngster Andrew Loberg got a healthy check in the FLW tournament at the Delta/ 28th place. No wonder Andrew nicknamed Wally "Net!!", At least it appears that is all Andrew says to Wally when they're fishing together...."Net!!"

Gary Barrett was the Dobyns Rod winner
